Mrs. Myrtle Pauline "Polly" Chitwood Cordell, 84, of Hartwell, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Hart Care Center.
Born on January 7, 1940 in Carnesville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Hoyt L. Chitwood and Eloise Duck Chitwood. Mrs. Cordell was a machine operator for both the Hartwell Garment Company and Springs Industries. She was a member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church where she loved to sing in the choir, and was an active member for as long as her health allowed. Polly loved camping in the mountains, and she especially loved her children & grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband: Tom W. Cordell of Hartwell; two sons: Rodney Cordell & Keith Cordell (Valerie), all of Hartwell; one brother: Thomas Chitwood (Brenda) of Hartwell; three grandchildren: Olin, Cody, and Ben Cordell; and five great-grandchildren: Paisley, Carter, Clayton, Ryker, and Gus Cordell. Mrs. Cordell is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter: Lisa Ann Cordell; three brothers: Joe, Ronnie, and Echota Chitwood; and two sisters: Peggy Skelton & Winona Evans.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at the home.
Funeral services for Mrs. Polly Cordell will be held Sunday, November 3, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at the Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Revs. Jason Holliman, Wayne Durden, and Gary Ledford officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made to the Cedar Creek Baptist Church, 3750 Elberton Hwy, Hartwell, GA 30643.
The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
