Mrs. Rachel Smith Cobb, age 80, of Martin, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at her home.
Born January 9, 1931 in Lavonia, she was the daughter of the late Mearman Agnew Smith and Nellie Beatrice Maret Smith.She retired from the Franklin County Board of Education and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband Hoyt Cobb of the home; daughter and son -in-law: Sheila & Shem McDowell of Hartwell; son & daughter-in-law: Gary & Darlene Cobb of Lavonia; daughter-in-law: Lynne Cobb of Charleston, SC; sisters: Juanita Roach of Lavonia and Flora Beggs of Canon; brother: Hugh Dorsey Smith of Atlanta; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren: In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son: Sandy Cobb and a sister: Opal Wilson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening beginning at 5:00 pm with the service following at 7:00 pm at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating. At other hours the family will be at the home.
