Rebecca "Rachel" (Peeples) Whitworth, age 83, formerly of Lavonia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Hart Care Center.
Born October 6, 1935, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Asa Samuel Peeples and Mary Ethel (Allen) Peeples. She graduated from Lavonia High School with the Class of 1955 and then attended Danville Community College in Virginia. She owned and operated her own business as a seamstress. She was a Christian and lifelong member of Double Branches Baptist Church. "Miss Rachel," as she liked to be called, will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, whom she adored: Charles Lindbergh Whitworth; brothers: John Peeples, Milford Peeples, and Alford Peeples; and sisters: Ruby Peeples, Liddie Peeples Garner, Laddie Peeples Wooten, and Mary Florence Peeples Norris.
She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law: Terry & Jennifer Whitworth of Royston; grandchildren: Bryan Whitworth of Roswell, Maggie Whitworth & fiancé: Derrick Lizana of Kennesaw, and Hannah Whitworth of Roswell; step-grandchildren: Justin Kennedy & wife: Destiny Costello, Jenna Hanley, and Jordyn Hanley; sister: Eula Mae Peeples Outz; lifelong neighbor, who she thought of as her daughter: Pam Eaton; and lots of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with Rev. Tim Beasley officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until the service.
