Mr. Ralph Benjamin Witherington, 83, of Fair Play, SC, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at his home on Lake Hartwell.
Born August 30, 1930, in Newnan, GA, he was the son of the late Bennie and Minnie (Newman) Witherington. He was a veteran of the US Air Force during the Japanese Occupation following World War II. Prior to retirement, he was a businessman, owning several hair salons. Mr. Witherington was a member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Marylyn (Matchette) Witherington; and sons: Phillip Witherington and Mark Witherington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Lee Witherington.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Lavonia United Methodist Church with Rev. Randall Massengill and Rev. John Owens officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Resthaven Garden of Memory in Atlanta with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the Lavonia United Methodist Church.
