Mr. James "Ray" Ansley, age 74, of 4332 Grady School Road – Lavonia, died Saturday, December 2, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospice House, Athens.
Born April 11, 1932, in Stephens County, he was a son of the late Thomas P. and Emmie Ward Ansley. He retired from Coats and Clark after 40 years of service. He served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Ansley attended the Lavonia Church of God and was a member of Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include wife of 50 years: Lucille Mauldin Ansley; daughter: Sharon A. Greenway of Mt. Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Wendell and Guynell Ansley and Rev. Ted and Joann Ansley of Toccoa; three grandsons: Jonathan Hill of Mt. Airy, Christopher Hill of Cornelia, and Ryan Paul Hill of Lula; one step-grandson: Jason Greenway of Lavonia; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sister: Frances Collins; and two brothers: John "Dub" Ansley and Ed Ansley.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Bishops Tyrone Hutchinson and Ben Lumley officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the Lavonia Church of God Building Fund, 150 Bear Creek Road, Lavonia, GA 30553. The family will be at the home.
