Ray Samuel Chasteen, age 71, of Lavonia, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020 at his home.
Born March 7, 1949, in Toccoa, he was the son of the late Raymond and Inez (King) Chasteen. Ray was a lifelong resident of Lavonia. He graduated from Franklin County High School and retired from the Army Corp of Engineers, where he enjoyed working on Lake Hartwell. Ray was a member of the Church of God of the Union Assembly in Lavonia.
Ray is survived by his companion of 20 years: Amy Milligan; daughter & son-in-law: Tonia & Paul Brown; son & daughter-in-law: Keven & Tina Chasteen; grandchildren: Johnny Banks, Jr., Darren Brown, Josh Chasteen, Kerstyn Chasteen Haygood, Nikki Freeman Phillips, and Michael Rice; step-grandchild: Candice Brown; great-grandchild: Isaac Phillips; step great-grandchildren: McKenzie Wallace and Trevor Wallace; and many friends.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2020 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with Rev. Darrell Akins and Rev. Tommy Childress officiating. A private burial will follow in the Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
