Obituary

Mr. Ray T. Jordan, 88, of the Rock Springs Community of Hart County, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Hart Care Center.

Born on May 21, 1936 in the Mt. Olivet Community of Hart County GA, he was the son of the late Walter Jordan and Ina Byrum Jordan.  Mr. Jordan was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church and a Deacon.  He loved going to Rock Springs Church every time he could.  He was also ordained Minister.

Mr. Jordan was a Mason for over 60 years.  He went into the U. S. Army at the age of 17 and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving 15 months in Korea.  He also was a member of American Legion Post 92 in Lavonia GA.

Mr. Jordan met and married his wife, Evelyn, in 1957 and they were married for 67 years.  He worked for over 40 years for Mead Packaging in Atlanta and was the Lead Person over the Steel Rule Die Department.  He traveled to Fairless Hills PA and Chicago IL to take care of Die problems.  He also liked gardening, fishing, and camping a lots.  He and his family camped every chance they got.

Mr. Jordan is survived by a daughter: Janet Wilson (Eddie) of Villa Rica GA; a daughter-in-law: Sheila Jordan of Villa Rica GA; two grandchildren: Sandy Jordan (Benjamin) of Carrollton GA and Kalem Wilson (Marissa) of Orlando FL; a great-granddaughter: Lilly Jordan of Carrollton GA; a sister: Brenda Jordan of Hartwell GA also survives.

Mr. Jordan was preceded death by his parents; his wife: Evelyn Gunn Jordan; two sons: Alan Ray Jordan and Robert "Bobby" Howard Jordan; a brother: Max Jordan and two sisters: Peggy Teel and Mattie Ann Jordan.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at the home.

Funeral services for Mr. Ray Jordan will be Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Terry James officiating.  Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park with military honors.

Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made to the Rock Springs Baptist Church, 2229 Rock Springs Road, Lavonia GA 30553.

The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
