Mrs. Esther Raye (Leverett) Barber, 80, of Bowman, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born May 11, 1937, in Rush Springs, OK, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Loma (McAdoo) Leverett. Prior to retirement, she worked in accounting and bookkeeping. Mrs. Barber was an avid bowler and was a member of the United States Bowling Congress.She was also a member of the Georgia Good Sams and chapter 22 of the Free Wheeling Sams.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother: Alan Leverett.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years: Richard "Dick" Barber; sons & daughters-in-law: Richard & Robin Barber, Jr. and James & Shari Barber; nephew: Robert Leverett; grandchildren: Geoffrey & Emily Barber and Annie-Rae & Andrew Rosen; and great-grandson: Lazer Rosen.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday January 28, 2018 in the chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia. Interment of cremains will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
