Obituary
Mr. Richard Leon Dyer, 80, of 2657 Beacon Light Road, Hartwell, died Saturday, December 17, 2011 at his home.
Born on August 28, 1931 in Dahlonega, GA, he was the son of the late Lon Dyer and Carrie Moose Dyer.He was a teacher and principal at Mt. Olivet Elementary School, a US Army veteran, and was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School.
Survivors include one son: Gary Dyer of Hartwell; three grandchildren: Marcia Selman, Cheryl Strange, and Brian Dyer; and five great grandchildren.Mr. Dyer was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Joan Brown Dyer; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Black officiating.Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday.The family is at the home.Floral arrangements are optional and special memorials may be made out to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 2973 Mount Olivet Road, Hartwell, GA 30643.
