Richard Marion Hamilton, age 78, a longtime resident of Lavonia, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025, at his home. Born on July 12, 1946, in Glendale, CA, Richard was the son of the late Austin and Katherine Primrose Hamilton.

After graduating from high school, Richard proudly served in the US Navy as a medic for several years. His dedication to serving others was evident throughout his life. Following his service, Richard pursued further education and embarked on a career as a chemist with Bayer, where he worked until his retirement. Richard was a Boy Scout leader for more than twenty years and was a Mason and a Shriner.

In retirement, Richard remained actively engaged with his community. He was a devoted member of the Lavonia Lions Club, where he volunteered his time, talents, and efforts. Richard had a passion for technology and was particularly fond of working on computers. He and his wife, Joyce, loved to travel the country visiting national parks and other places of interest. He was also a member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Amanda Williams and his first wife: Julia Swiger Hamilton. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Smith Hamilton, his children: Melissa Fort (Ken Burton) and Angela Henley (Kyle). He is also survived by his bonus-children Andy Hall (Machelle) and Courtney Ross (Gerald). Richard's legacy is carried on by his grandchildren, Darion and Destyni Hamilton, Vic, Bianca and Julia Fort, Austin, Bryce and Kamryn Henley and Ansley and Adam Poole.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held at a later date. In accordance with his request, he was cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to the Lavonia United Methodist Church, 25 Baker Street, Lavonia, GA 30553, or to the charity of one's choice.
