Mr. Robert Emmanuel "Tombstone" Buchanan, 73, of Smith Street, Hartwell, was called home to be with his Lord, Friday, August 12, 2016.

Born on January 27, 1943 in Wilmington NC, he was the son of the late Elmer J. "Buck" Buchanan and Mildred Jane McClure Buchanan.Mr. Buchanan grew up in Elberton GA where he began his career as a truck driver hauling granite. He thoroughly enjoyed driving a truck and did so for over 45 years.He never retired and drove until the end of March 2016, when he began his battle with cancer.In 1996, Mr. Buchanan went in to business for a few years with his two sons and formed Buchanan Express, Inc.Those were some of the best years of his trucking career.He was so very proud of being in business for himself with his two sons.Robert throughout his life was an encourager and a giver.He could never say no to someone in need and helped so many over the years. Mr. Buchanan was a Mason and a member of the Flat Shoals Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife: Faye Sanders Buchanan; two sons: Jeff Buchanan & his wife Beth of Hartwell and Todd Buchanan & his wife Leslie of Royston; a step-son: Dylan Phillips & his wife Katie of Hartwell; a sister: Hazel B. Shackelford of Belton SC; seven grandchildren: Lauren, Brooke & her husband John, Brad & his companion Lexi, Alisa, Laci, Crate & Rhett and two great-grandchildren: McKenzie and Cayson.Mr. Buchanan was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Buster Buchanan and two sisters: Betty Jean & Doris Ann Buchanan.

Funeral services will be Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Wendell Bannister, Rev. Terry Meeks and Rev. John Silver officiating.Burial will be in the Flat Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.The family is at the home.
