Robert Edwin Custer, aged 92, of Fair Play, SC, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Brown Health & Rehabilitation in Royston.

Born August 8, 1933, in Elkhart, Indiana, Robert was the son of the late Paul Edwin Custer and Jeanne Miriam Sager Custer. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served aboard the minesweepers MSO Victory and MSO Valor. He pursued a career in engineering, culminating in a distinguished tenure at General Motors, from which he retired after many years of dedicated service.

Having an adventuresome spirit and never one to stay in one place very long, Robert, enjoyed sailing, motorcycle riding, and downhill skiing.  He rode a motorcycle well into his 80s.  While living in Colorado, he rode his motorcycle to Anchorage, Alaska, Florida, and many trips to Indiana.  He was a favorite uncle to his nieces and nephew.

Robert was predeceased by his devoted wife, Dorothy Jane Bergdoll Custer; and granddaughter, Sarah Grace Allison. He leaves behind a loving family, including his daughters, Deborah Ann Brown (James) and Susan Lynn Allison (Mark). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Kyra Elizabeth Allison and Samual Alan Allison. He is also survived by his sisters, Nancy Custer Collins and Mary Ann McFarland; and bonus grandchildren Marty Brown and Erica (Joshua) Alexander and bonus great grandchildren: County Jeans, Cole Jeans, and Mara Alexander.

Honoring Robert's request, he was cremated. The family plans to hold a private celebration of his life to commemorate his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Blood Cancer United (https://bloodcancerunited.org/), P. O. Box 98011, Washington, DC 20090-8011.
