Mr. Robert Montgomery "Bobby" McMurry, age 82, of Parkertown Road, Lavonia, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Landmark Hospital in Athens.
Born October 9, 1935, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Winifred and Eleanor Crouch McMurry. He was a graduate of Lavonia High School and graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelors of Science in Forestry in 1958. He retired as a forester with the Georgia Forestry Commission.Mr. McMurry was a member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church.He is certainly known by many in Lavonia and loved everything about its people and places.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Maxine Berryman McMurry; and sister: Sara McMurry Barnes.
He is survived by his daughter and son in law: Nancy and Ted Uiterwyk of Dunwoody, Georgia; son and daughter in law: Russell and Michelle McMurry of Buford, Georgia; grandchildren: Caroline Usher and Trent Usher, John Belton Watson, Jackson Watson, Zacharey McMurry, Nicholas McMurry and Andrew McMurry; great-granddaughter Jacqueline Usher; brother-in-law: William "Bill" Barnes; nephew: Bill Barnes, Jr.; and niece: Beverly Johnson; and Wendell and Patty Berryman, Charles and Marilyn Heard, Fain Berryman, John and Joy Jordan and Beth Vaughter.Also his close personal friends Donna Hart, Jerry Williams, Ruth Davis, Ruth Ann Gillespie, Rachel Morrison, Beverly Harrison and Frances Andrews.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Lavonia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Lacey Bowcock officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Bill Barnes, Jr., Emery Heard, Andrew McMurry, Nicholas McMurry, Zacharey McMurry, Jackson Watson, and John Belton Watson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. McMurry to the Lavonia United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 176, Lavonia, GA 30553.
