Mr. Robert Harold Powell, 81, of South Forest Ave, Hartwell, died Saturday, May 17, 2014 at his home.

Born on December 8, 1932, in Hartwell, he was a son of the late Leonard Powell and Myra Elrod Powell. Mr. Powell was a graduate of Piedmont College.He is retired from the Federal Government where he worked in the Pentagon for the Army as an analyst.He was a former police officer for the Hartwell Police Department and did security work for the Toccoa Social Security office. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and also a US Army veteran. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: his wife: Jeanette Wheeler Powell; two daughters: Melissa P. Weill of Fairfax, VA and Melanie P. Getman of Hartwell; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two brothers: Dan Powell of Hartwell, Jimmy Powell of Dallas, GA; two sisters: Polly Dunson of Atlanta and Martha Yeargin of North Carolina.He was preceded in death by five brothers: Wayne, Gene, Lindsey, Frank, and Woodrow Powell; four sisters: Christine White, Ruth Reece, Jeanette Fowler and Glenda Powell and one grandchild: Nicholas Getman.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. John Silver.Burial will be in the Wheeler Cemetery in Maysville, GA at 3:00 pm.

The body is at Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family is at the home.
