Rodney Lee Payne, age 59, of Lavonia, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 10, 2024.
Born on December 10, 1964, in Macon, Rodney was the beloved son of the late Charles and Evelyn Avelene Tidwell. Rodney was known for his exceptional skills as a self-employed painter. In his younger years, he found joy in skating and cherished moments spent on the lake. Rodney's sociable nature and infectious sense of humor endeared him to many; he had a gift for storytelling and loved to make people laugh. He was of the Church of God faith
In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his brother Rudy Mullis and sister Debra Allen. His legacy lives on through his family. He is survived by his daughters, Amber Degrave (Chad) and Charli Payne, and his son, Ryan Payne. Rodney was a grandfather to Dylan Degrave, Raelynn Degrave, Hailey McGee, and Makenzie McGee. He is also survived by his brothers Randy Mullis, Ricky Mullis, and David Payne, as well as his sister Rhonda Crumm. Rodney's memory will be cherished by several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who remember his stories and sense of humor.
The memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Hartwell Church of God. The family is also looking to plan a celebration of Rodney's life in Macon at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to defray funeral expenses.
