Mr. Roscoe McCollum, age 86, of 4859 Vickery Street, Lavonia, died Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Hartwell Health Care Center following an extended illness.
Born May 12, 1921, in Hart County, he was the son of the late James Walter McCollum and the late Essie Bratcher McCollum. He was a machinist and retired from Coats and Clark after 25 years and E-Z Bore after 19 years. Mr. McCollum was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion. He was a Mason and a former mayor of Lavonia. Mr. McCollum was a member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife: Edna Cann McCollum; sister: Mary McCollum Hill; and four brothers: Ralph, Harold, Raymond, and George McCollum.
Survivors include daughter Gail Starrett of Lavonia; three grandsons reared in the home and their wives: Russell & Joy Starrett of Lavonia, Rodney & Melanie Starrett of Kings Mtn., and Randy & Beth Starrett of Monroe; great-grandchildren: Ashley & Eric Carroll of Kings Mtn., Joshua & Jessica Starrett of Lavonia, Brad & Brittany Starrett of Monroe, and Jessica & Jimmy Woody of Lavonia; and great-great-grandchildren: Kaylee and Ethan Carroll of Kings Mtn.
The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2007 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Revs. Doug Brown and Gettis Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
