Roy C. Martin, age 94, of Taylors, SC, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021, at his home in Taylors, SC surrounded by his family.
Born February 13, 1926 in Seneca, SC, he was the son of the late Hovie E. and Annie M. (Lynch) Martin. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served (during WWII) from July 3 1944 to 1946, he served as a storekeeper 3rd class. He was awarded the Quilt of Valor on August 17, 2019 and the Honor Flight on September 20, 2011. Mr. Martin retired from Winn-Dixie after 43 years where he began work as a bagboy and also serves as District Manager for the corporation. He was a member of Lee Road Methodist Church, lifetime member of the Sam Poe Lodge # 284 (over 50 yrs.) and was a member of IPTay (Clemson Tigers official site) for over 40 yrs. He was an avid Clemson fan attending games up to 92 years of age, and loved to travel with his special friend: Mildred Shaver. In addition to his parents Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife: Jane A. (Adams) Martin; brothers: Lloyd Martin and Cecil Martin; and a sister Earlene Skelton.
He is survived by his daughters: Martha A. Moore and Jan M. (Terry) Sweet; grandchildren: DeAnna Campbell, Kimberly Harmon, Robert Stalvey, Lauren Moore, Laura Sweet, Lynn Fulbright; 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. A special thank you to his Care Aides and Regency Care Staff.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Lavonia City-Burgess Cemetery with military honors. A memorial service will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28th at his home 201 Indian Trails Taylors, SC.
