Mr. Roy Wood, age 80, died Monday, August 3, 2009 at Cobb Memorial hospital due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born May 19, 1929, in Anderson County, SC, he was the son of the late Thomas William Wood and Artie Mae (Nix) Wood. He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons: Fred, Billy, & Leon Wood; sisters: Elease W. Peeples, Edna Cape, & Gatha Blackwell; great-granddaughter: Skylie Hilley.
Survivors include daughters: Barbara Lawrence, Daphne Higgins, Gail Massey, & Regina Tullis; sons: Gary Wood and Ricky Rholetter; sisters: Ruby Nell Chastain, Beatrice Wehunt, Jean Wilbanks, Ruth Wooten, & Mildred Ramey; brothers: Rayford & Preston Wood; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Wood and Rev. Geddis Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
