Mrs. Ruby Scott Dowell, 88, of College Street, Royston, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Hartwell Health & Rehab.
Born on June 24, 1932 in Hartwell GA, she was the daughter of the late Mahlon Scott and Georgia Anna Ayers Scott.Mrs. Dowell was a retired lunchroom worker for Emmanuel College and a member of the Rice Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son: David T. Dowell (Judy) of Bogart, GA; two daughters: Brenda D. Herring (Mike) of Hartwell and Phyllis D. Hairston of Royston; four grandchildren: Jonathan Herring, Michelle Brantley (Jon), Mitchell Dowell, and Morgan Dowell; three great grandchildren: Jon Marc Brantley (Jessica), James Brantley, Katie Brantley; one great-great grandchild: Jon Marc Brantley III. Mrs. Dowell is preceded in death by her parents; husband: George T. Dowell; brother: IJ Scott; and seven sisters: Lorine Cameron, Lois Fowler, Bertie Mae Scott, Beatrice Mahoney, Mazell Blackwell, Addie Jean Scott, and Marie Holland.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home.Other times the family will be at their respective homes.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Dowell will be held Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Tommy Cleveland officiating.Entombment will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International, Hart County Camp, P.O. Box 59, Hartwell, GA 30643 or to the American Heart Association, 1720 Epps Bridge Pkwy, Suite 108-383, Athens GA 30606.
