Mr. Rufus Roberts, age 76, of Lavonia, died peacefully in his sleep Friday, April 24, 2009 at his home.
Born January 15, 1933, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Luther & Lessie (Vaughn) Roberts. He retired from BE&K of Greenville as an industrial electrician and was the former owner of City Cafe in Lavonia. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean Conflict, and a member of the Lavonia Masonic Lodge # 241. Mr. Roberts was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Martha (LeCroy) Roberts.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Rickey & Melanie Roberts and Brad & Renee Roberts all of Lavonia; daughters and sons-in-law: Vickie & Mike Hardy of Anderson, SC and Lisa & Clay Milford of Lavonia; grandchildren: Josh Roberts, Phoenix Roberts, Journey Roberts, & Lenox Roberts all of Lavonia; brothers: Rafe Roberts of Lavonia, Ralph Roberts, Rance Roberts, & Raymond Roberts all of Carnesville; sister: Mary Frances Phillips of Greenville, SC; special friend: Louise Hyde; shade tree friends: Charlie Moulder and Joe Herring; and faithful companion: Red.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Kenneth Jones and Dr. Larry Finger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Brad Roberts, and will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 2:00 to 3:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
