Mrs. Essie Ruth Sullivan Bowers, 89, of Bowersville, passed away Friday, December 12, 2025 at Hart Care Center, Hartwell.

Born on September 19, 1936 in Hartwell GA, she was the daughter of the late Perry Sullivan and Annie Bratcher Sullivan.  Mrs. Bowers started working in her father's country store, Sullivan's Grocery, then eventually purchased it and ran it as Bowers Grocery for several years.  She was also a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son: Calvin Bowers (Christie) of Bowersville; a daughter: Dorothy Hall (Stanley) of Royston; a sister: Vernell S. Byrum of Bowersville; three grandchildren: Seth Bowers (Lindsey), Sam Herring and Trace Partain and several nieces & nephews that she loved as her own.

Mrs. Bowers was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Joe Bowers; two brothers: Gene Sullivan and Jack Sullivan and three sisters: Montine Cagle, Lula Bell Cobb and Miller Garland.

Mrs. Bowers wished to be cremated and there will be a time for family & friends to gather to remember her at a later date.

The Strickland Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hartwell is assisting the family with all of the arrangements.
