Mrs. Ruth Hawks Cochran, age 88, of Magnolia Estates, Elberton, died Friday, April 11, 2008 at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
Born January 20, 1920, in Rockingham County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Freil and Laura Shoupe Hawks. She retired from the textile industry and was a member of the Elberton First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Juel Winford Cochran; son: Winford "Wimp" Cochran; and grandson: Christopher Allen.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law: Fred & Louise Cochran of Lavonia; daughter: Mervene Allen of Elberton; daughter-in-law: Joy Cochran of Elberton; grandsons: Todd Allen, Scott & Darlene Cochran, and Jason & Brooke Chatham; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Stovall officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
