Mrs. Ruth Kay Minor, age 85, of Lavonia, died Friday, January 7, 2011 at the Medical College of Georgia.
Born June 20, 1925, in Hart County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel P. Kay and Nettie (Lee) Kay. She retired from Big A Elementary School as secretary. She was a member of the Toccoa First United Methodist Church and the Rhodes Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her husband: Alton F. Minor of the home; children: Dr. Nancy Newcomb & husband Bob of Elk City, OK and William "Bill" White & wife: Margaret "Meg" Ludowese of Baltimore, MD; step-children: Priscilla Gothard & husband Jim of Lavonia and Richard Minor & wife Patricia of Stone Mountain; sister: Mary Wells of Anderson SC, five step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband: William F. "Billy" White, Jr., a sister, Louise Carroll, and six brothers:Thomas, Dupree, Bernice "Fanny", Charles, Hoyt, & James Perry Kay.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour. At other times, the family will be at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Toccoa First United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen, 333 E. Tugalo Street, Toccoa, GA 30577.
