Mrs. Ruth (Harris) Thomas, age 82, of Lavonia, died Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Greene Point Health & Rehab in Union Point.
Born November 12, 1932, in Lavonia, she was the daughter of the late J. D. & Dollie May (Buffington) Harris. She was formerly married to the late James Onis Mauldin of Piedmont, SC and then to William Thomas of Longview, TX (formerly from Canon). She moved back to Lavonia in 1993 from Texas and then to Greensboro, GA in 2010 to be near her two sons. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons and daughters in-law: Larry & Angela Mauldin of Greensboro and Herschel & Missy Mauldin of Buckhead; 2 sisters: Elene Crider and Alice Mullinex; brother: David Harris; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters: Janet Hamby, Josephine Vaughn, Mildred Lacy and Dot Vaughn and brothers: J. C. and Robert Harris.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. John Forbes officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North. The family will receive friends on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church 250 Pleasant Grove Road Lavonia, GA 30553.
