Mrs. Ruth Thorne Whitworth, age 68, wife of David Whitworth, of Lavonia, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Oconee Medical Center.
Born June 4, 1942, in Columbia, AL, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Hollis Thorne and Hazel Winget Thorne. She retired from the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce, where she served as the executive secretary. She was a member of the Lavonia First Baptist Church. Mrs. Whitworth was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband: David Whitworth; sons and daughters-in-law: Chad & Michelle Whitworth and Chuck & Roseanne Whitworth; grandsons: Jake, Drew, Will, Brody, & Dalton Whitworth; and sisters: Sharon Daniel and Sue Farmer.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lavonia First Baptist Church Children's Department, P.O. Box 47, Lavonia, GA 30553. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
