Mrs. Sally Barnes Evans Herndon, 89, of Lankford Road, Bowersville, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 at her home.

Born on June 21, 1927 in Bowersville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Lindsey Dock Barnes and Estelle White Barnes.Mrs. Herndon was a retired LPN from Hartwell Family Practice and a member of the Old Canon Baptist Church.She was a former Sunday School teacher and a member of the Choir. She also visited the nursing homes to sing to the patients.

Survivors include three sons: Jack L. Evans, Jr. (Jeanene), Roger D. Evans, and J. Michael Evans (Elaine) all of Bowersville; one brother:Leonard Barnes of Bowersville; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Herndon was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband: Jack L. Evans, Sr; her second husband: Thomas Herndon; five brothers: Sam Barnes, JP Barnes, Rufus Barnes, Aaron Barnes, Ephron Barnes; three sisters: Bernice White, Ruth Wallace and Elise Frankum.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. James Sexton and Rev. Jack Evans, Jr. officiating.Burial will be in the Bowersville City Cemetery.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.The family is at their respective homes.Flowers are optional, memorials may be made to the Old Canon Baptist Church, 1066 Old Canon Church Road, Bowersville, GA30516.
