Mr. Sam D. Barnes, 85, of Beacon Light Road, Hartwell, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at his home.

Born on July 30, 1929 in Bowersville, GA, he was the son of the late Lindsay Doc Barnes and Ida Estelle White Barnes.He was a retired machine operator from Monroe Auto Equipment Co. and a member of the Mt. Olivet Church of God.He also was an ordained minister with the Church of God.

Survivors include his wife: Floydell Bolmon Barnes; three sons: Lynn Barnes of Hartwell, Ken Barnes of Hartwell and Robert Barnes of San Francisco, CA; one brother: Leonard Barnes of Bowersville; and one sister: Sally B. Herndon of Bowersville.Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: JP Barnes, Rufus Barnes, Raymond Barnes, Bennie Barnes and seven sisters: Ruth Wallace, Johnnie Mae McKern, Bernice White, Elise Frankum, Lelia Scarborough, Nealie Jordan and Ossie Bell Eaverson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Olivet Church of God with the Rev. Wesley Allen and Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating.Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Church of God Cemetery.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.The family is at the home.
