Samuel Carroll Crenshaw, age 81, of Martin, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 16, 2024, following an extended illness.
Born on April 24, 1943, in Franklin County, Samuel was the son of the late Russ Lee Crenshaw and Ruby Nell Carroll Crenshaw. He graduated from Stephens County High School and later joined the United States Army, where he served with distinction in the helicopter division during the Korean War.
After his honorable military service, Sam pursued higher education, obtaining a degree in banking. He enjoyed a fulfilling career as an auditor with C & S Bank until his retirement. Post-retirement, Sam embraced his passion for agriculture by managing the family farm. He also founded AN-I-Mule Hills Kennels. He found great joy in traveling with his family and attending gospel singings. He was a longtime member, deacon, and visitation leader of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lavonia.
Sam is survived by his daughter, Michelle Crenshaw Spears (Mark Shiflet); his son-in-law, Keith Spears; and his adored granddaughters, Samantha Spears and Katie McCollum. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Adams Crenshaw, and his brother, Russell Crenshaw.
A service to celebrate Sam's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lavonia, officiated by Rev. Brandon Crunkleton and Rev. Ray Richardson. Sam will be laid to rest beside his beloved Carol, in the church's cemetery. Flowers are accepted and may be sent to the funeral home by Friday afternoon.
