Shirley Ann Certain Gibson, age 78, of Lavonia, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022 at her home following an extended illness.
She was born July 21, 1943, in Miami, Florida, a daughter of the late J. S. Certain and the late Janie Bell Coker Certain. Prior to retirement, she worked as the cashier manager for Echo Restaurant. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughters: Barbara Douglas and Janet Smith; brother: Billy Lee Certain; and sisters: Louise Beatenbough, Sandra Delacruz, and Peggy Certain.
She is survived by her sons: Walter Jones, Wesley Jones (Sherry), Terry Jones (Rose), and Jamie Certain (Samantha); daughters: Tammy Miller (Chris), and Ann Hartline; brother: David Certain (Kathy); sister: Barbara "P-Nut" Lancaster (Tommy); grandchildren: Johnathon Jones (Erica), Dana Merrier, Tiffany Jones, Lyndsey McGahee (Sean), Angel Cato, Deanna Jones, Kole Jones, Danek Wisniewski (Codi), Kaylee Cheek (Ben), Kelsey Rucker (Easton), Cody Jones (Tanessa), Shaun Certain (Jessica), Andrew Certain, Payton Certain, Anna-Bell Certain, Alexander Certain, Dawson Sexton, and Cassidy Sexton; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with Rev. Tommy Childress officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home.
