Shirley Jo (Summervill) Hamilton, age 77, of Lavonia, died Thursday, December 8, 2016 Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born August 18, 1939 in Haralson County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Will and Etta (Laminack) Summervill. She attended the University of Maryland and was of the Church of Christ faith.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Andy and Christy Hamilton and Paul and Elizabeth Hamilton; grandchildren: Shane Hamilton & Sarah, Nicole Hamilton, Justin Hamilton, Aaron Hamilton & Taylor, Ben Carr and Kelly Walker & Andrew; great grandchildren: Gavin Hamilton, Rosalee Hamilton, Peyton Walker and Jacey Langley; siblings: Kenneth Summervill & Christine, Clara Smith, Bernice Wilkerson & Oscar, and Bessie Backus; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Thomas Newton Hamilton; and her son: Thomas Steve Hamilton.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Renfro officiating. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home.
