Mrs. Shirley McCurley Herndon, 85, of Marietta, GA, passed away Monday, March 7, 2022 after a four year battle with cancer.

She was born on November 18, 1936 in Winder, GA. Shirley was the daughter of the late Annie Ruth Perry McCurley and Dan McCurley of Hartwell. Shirley grew up in Hartwell and graduated from Hart County High School in 1954, where she was the President of her class, Fair-A-Ganza Queen, and Homecoming Queen. She attended the University of Georgia and married the love of her life, Hewell Herndon from Hartwell, in 1956. After Hewell's college graduation and entry into the Air Force in 1958, they built a wonderful life together, raising three daughters and traveling the world for the next 22 years. In 1979, Shirley and Hewell retired to Marietta, GA. Shirley was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She always enjoyed spending time with her family, neighbors, and friends. She loved her home and always made everyone feel welcomed. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and yardwork. She will be dearly missed by everyone who loved her.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years: Thomas Hewell Herndon; three daughters: Kathy Herndon, Karen Herndon Price, and Kim Herndon Hilley; three grandchildren: Brandi, Taylor, and Dakota; and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving cousins from the Perry, McCurley, and Herndon families. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Annie Ruth McCurley, and her in-laws, Pete and Opal Herndon, all of Hartwell.

It was Mrs. Herndon's wishes to be cremated and a private gathering celebrating her life will be held by the family at a later date.
