Mrs. Shirley Ann Mathis, age 68, of Carnesville, died Friday, March 23, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens.
Born June 1, 1943, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Tommy Lee Smith and Nancy Anna (Pierce) Smith. She was a personal caregiver.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: James Terry Mathis.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Charann and Ty Tolbert of Comer; sons and daughters-in-law: David and Amanda Mathis of Canon and Dennis and Michele Mathis of Comer; companion: Joe Herring of Lavonia; sister and brother-in-law: Jean and Billy Bezan of College Station, TX; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter, 870 Bear Creek Road, Lavonia, GA 30553.
