IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sid
Jonson
January 17, 1947 – December 2, 2024
With great sadness, the family of Sidney Dwight "Sid" Jonson of Hartwell wishes to announce his passing on December 2, 2024 at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens.
Sid was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. While earning his Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and Master's Degree in Business at the University of Michigan, Sid played football for the late, great Coach Bo Schembeckler.
After graduation, most of Sid's life was spent in California where he renovated restaurants and old homes in the city of San Francisco, as well as designing and building ski lodges and homes in the mountains. Ever the athlete and adventurer, his free time was filled with running, sky-diving, snow-skiing, and hiking, logging over 1000 miles backpacking in Yosemite and cycling throughout Europe for a year with his business partners.
After retirement Sid moved to Hartwell, where he loved spending time in his woodworking shop being creative and sharing many stories and jokes with his group of close friends. Sid designed and built the Asian inspired Moonhouse at the Hart County Botanical Garden with those good friends.
Sid leaves behind his partner, Vickie Peace; son Brett Jonson (Cameron), three grandchildren, Nolan, Trevor, and Scarlett Jonson of Charlotte. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Harold and Ron Jonson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 16 from 3:00 to 5:00 at the Art Center of Hartwell for family and friends.
The family kindly requests that any memorials in Sid's honor be made to Hart County Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 146, Hartwell GA 30643 or Doctors Without Borders, 40 Rector St., 16th Floor, New York, NY 10006, doctorswithoutborders.org.
Generous with his talents and always kind to others, Sid Jonson will be missed. Go Blue!
The Strickland Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
