Obituary

Mrs. Jacqueline Sue Potter Kesler, 78, of 15 Shea Drive, Hartwell, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Rainey Hospice House, Anderson SC.

Born on October 23, 1932, in Winder, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late John David Potter and Willie Elizabeth Lay Potter.Sue was a cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (1954) and a graduate of Georgia State University in Atlanta with a Master of Business Education (1980).

A resident of Hartwell since 1989, she was a member of Hartwell First United Methodist Church with membership in United Methodist Women and the John Holland Sunday School Class.She was a member of the Hart County Retired Educators Association as well as the Georgia Retired Educators Association having taught in Jackson, Douglas, Newton, and Hart Counties during 25 years in the classroom.After retirement, she worked with Adult Literacy in Hart County through Athens Technical College.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-four years, James R. Kesler Sr. of Hartwell; a son James R. Kesler, Jr., and his wife Courtney Verdery Kesler and two grandsons, Tyler and Stephen Kesler all of Hartwell.She is survived by two sisters:Ramona Potter Waddell and her husband Bob of Greer, South Carolina, and Kay Potter Dowdle of Hartwell, Georgia, and four nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, John David Kesler.

Services will be held on Sunday, November 21 at 3:00 p.m. at Hartwell First United Methodist Church with Dr. R. Allen Stewart and Rev. Troy Ayers officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park. The family will receive friends with a reception after the funeral service in the church fellowship hall.The family is at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hartwell First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Howell St, Hartwell GA 30643 or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd, Anderson SC 29621.
