Susan Thielman Atkins, age 77, of Lavonia, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025.

Born on November 21, 1947, in Pittsburgh, PA, Susan was the daughter of the late Arthur Edward Thielman and Jean Wimer Thielman. She pursued higher education at Asbury University, a testament to her dedication to learning and personal growth.

Susan enjoyed a long career in education and ministry, alongside her husband. Her passion extended beyond the classroom, as she had a profound love for animals, often caring for those who found their way to her home. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Rev. Thomas "Tom" Atkins, Jr.; her sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew & Leslie Atkins and Andrew & Ashley Atkins; and her grandchildren, Branch Atkins, Maddie Atkins, Brooks Atkins, Reagan Atkins, Walker Atkins, and Charis Atkins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sandy Moll.

A celebration of Susan's life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Hartwell First Methodist Church, with Dr. James Lowry and Rev. E. Parks Davis officiating. Reception to follow. In accordance with her wishes, Susan was cremated.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Tom Atkins Evangelistic Association (tomatkins.org), P.O. Box 701, Lavonia, GA 30553. This gesture will honor Susan's legacy and continue her dedication to her husband's mission.
