Susan Harrison Kaufman passed away on September 19, 2009 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on September 19, 1952 in Atlanta, Georgia to Sarah (Brooks) Harrison and Dill Harrison. She graduated with honors from Emory University with a degree in art history. At Emory, she was a member and president of Kappa Delta Sorority. She received a master's degree from Vanderbilt University and a PhD in art history from the University of Georgia.
Susan had lived in San Antonio since 1990.Most recently, she taught art history at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She was active in the community of San Antonio's Keystone School, serving as PTO president for two years and as a member of the Board of Trustees. She was also a lifelong member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta.
In 1980, Susan married David Kaufman, who preceded her in death in 2001. She is survived by her sons, David Brooks Kaufman and Emmet Harrison Kaufman of San Antonio; a sister, Karen Garrison and her husband Roger and son Jim of Auburn, Alabama; and many nieces and nephews. These and extended family members will miss her greatly. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, September 23 in San Antonio. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 27 at 2:00 pm in Lavonia City Cemetery with Rev. David Jones officiating.
