Thomas Alvin Mitchell, age 81, of Martin, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at the home of his daughter.
Born June 1, 1940, in Greenwood, SC, he was the son of the late Corbitt Thomas Mitchell and Annie Lizzie Cobb Mitchell. He was a maintenance technician by trade and retired from Franklin County Schools. He was a retired firefighter, having served for more than twenty years with Line Fire Department. Mr. Mitchell was a classic car enthusiast and a longtime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Edwards Mitchell; sister: Nell Smith; and brothers-in-law: Tommy Smith and Billy Murphy.
He is survived by his daughter: Angela Kay (Steve) of Jonesboro; grandchildren: Evan Kay (Meaghan), Ryan Kay (Sierra), & Megan Kay; great-grandson: Cohen Kay; brothers: Ted Mitchell (Patsy), David Mitchell (Joy), and Jerry Mitchell (Montine); sisters: Margaret Murphy, Patricia Staples (Mike), and Mary Holloway (Tommy); and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2022 in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia. A private burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service. At other hours the family will be at their respective homes.
