Mr. Thomas Joseph Monahan, age 93, of Demorest, formerly of Lavonia, died Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Magnolia Hills Retirement Home in Demorest.
Born March 26, 1924, in Newburgh, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Florence Monahan. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and saw action in ten European countries. He retired from the Smith Corona Marchant (SCM) Company as a serviceman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years: Jane (Brandhoff) Monahan; a brother, and three sisters.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Kathleen and Jack Molnar of Clarkesville; and grandchildren: Michael & Cindy Molnar and John Kendrick Molnar.
The graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the Lavonia City ~ Burgess Cemetery with Rev. John Dallas officiating. Mr. Monahan was cremated in accordance with his request. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Cornelia VFW Post 7720, 423 VFW Rd, Cornelia, GA 30531.
