Tommy Gene McGee, age 78, of Canon, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 24, 2025. Born on October 25, 1946, in Franklin County, Tommy was the beloved son of the late Warren Morgan McGee and Lois Isbell McGee. He was a proud graduate of Lavonia High School, class of 1964.
Following high school, Tommy served his country with honor as a member of the US Army, where he was stationed with the NATO Forces in Germany. After his military service, Tommy dedicated many years to his career, retiring as a supervisor with Inergy Automotive.
Tommy was a devoted member of the Lavonia Church of God, where he served in various capacities, including on the Church Council. His dedication to his community extended beyond his church, as he was also a former member of the Lavonia American Legion.
Tommy's life was enriched by his passions, including a love for classic cars, hunting, and fishing. He was particularly renowned for his gardening skills, especially his thriving tomato plants. His generous spirit was evident as he joyfully shared his garden harvest with friends and family.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Cawthon McGee; his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Melvin Worley; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Debbie and Randy Clark; along with many nieces and nephews. Tommy's legacy of kindness, service, and community will be warmly remembered by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held in celebration of Tommy's life at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Lavonia Church of God with Rev. Adam Tripp and Rev. Rob Hill officiating. The service will include military honors. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made in Tommy's memory to Lavonia Church of God, 107 Bear Creek Road, Lavonia, GA 30553.
