Mr. Thomas A. "Tommy" Walters, age 75, of Lavonia, died Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Gentiva Hospice IPU at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1939, in Hart County, he was the son of the late Hubert Max and Sarah (Dowis) Walters. He was a graduate of Lavonia High School Class of 1958. Prior to retirement, he worked for Duke Power and in the restaurant business. He served in the US Army and the Army National Guard. He was a Master Mason, in good standing, of the Masonic Order of the State of Georgia. Mr. Walters was a member of the Lavonia First Baptist Church and served on the Hospitality Team.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Yvo Delores (Vandiver) Walters. Survivors include his daughters: Tabatha D. Walters of the home and Mona Lisa Smith and her husband Scotty of Martin; grandchildren: Morgan Walters Grover and her husband Britt of Jacksonville, FL, David Scott Smith, Jr. and his wife Justine of Martin, and William "Bill" Thomas Smith of Martin; great-grandson: Mason Jax Grover; step-great-granddaughter: Charlie Smith; and brother: Ron M. Walters and his wife Judy of Lavonia.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Finger, Rev. Chris Chitwood, and Rev. Josh Harvill officiating. Burial will follow in Lavonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home.
