Mr. Wellborn Travis George, 89, of Tugaloo Point, Hartwell, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at his home.
Born on August 27, 1929 in Redan GA, he was the son of the late Julius Candler George Sr. and Buena Loy Wellborn George. Mr. George was retired from General Motors, where he was a Shift Supervisor for Plant Protection Services.Mr. George was a charter member of the Glen Haven United Methodist Church, Decatur GA and was a member of the Hartwell First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men and the Thursday Morning Prayer Group. Travis was an avid vegetable, scuppernong and blueberry gardener. He enjoyed sharing his bountiful harvest with family, friends and neighbors. Bompa enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially their "help" in the garden.
Survivors include two sons: Wellborn Travis George, Jr. (Jennifer) of Covington GA and William Howell "Bill" George (Rebecca) of Hartwell GA; one daughter: Elizabeth Ann George of Hartwell GA; two brothers: Ben George of Tucker GA and Edwin "Precious" George of Conyers GA; four grandchildren: Will George (Brandi), Betsy Mackey (Kurt), Travis George III (Daphne) and Joshua George (Jacquelyn) and five great-grandchildren: Kyle Mackey, Reily George, Sawyer George, Hemingway George and Calista George also survive.Mr. George was preceded in death by his wife: Eleanor Howell George and a brother: Candler George.
A memorial service celebrating Travis' life will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hartwell First United Methodist Church with Dr. R. Allen Stewart and Rev. Beau Swafford officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.Travis' ashes will be placed along side Eleanor's in the Garden at Sharon Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hartwell First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 200 E. Howell Street, Hartwell GA 30643.
