Mrs. Tressie Kimbrell Cawthon, age 83, of Hartwell, formerly of Lavonia, died Sunday, April 13, 2014 at her home following an extended illness.
Born March 28, 1931, in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late James Akie Kimbrell and Pearlie Mae (Clark) Kimbrell. She retired from Hartwell Mills as a spinner. Mrs. Cawthon was a member of East Lavonia Church of God.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Diane and Billy Reed; son: Charles "Phil" Cawthon; brother: Harvey Kimbrell; grandchild raised in the home: Chuck Cawthon; four other grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband J. B. "Jake" Cawthon; daughter-in-law: Naomi Cawthon; four brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Gettis Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to St. Mary's Hospice, 1500 Oglethorpe Avenue, Athens, GA 30606.
