Mrs. Velma Porter Gunter, 95, of Hartwell, passed away Friday, August 22, 2025 at Hart Care Center.

Born on April 12, 1930 in Anderson SC, she was the daughter of the late William Alonzo Porter and Mary Sentell Porter.  Mrs. Gunter retired from the lunchroom at Hart County Middle School and was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters: Judy Frye and Joelan Mackey both of Hartwell and Denise Smith (Paul) of Lavonia; two sons: Lewis Burdette (Christa) of Comer and Todd Gunter (Chrissie) of Lavonia; five grandchildren: Ian Frye, Chase Burdette (Mallory), Will Isom (Melissa), Kate Carter (Brad) and Taylor Brannen (Cam) and five great-grandchildren: Auden Burdette, Billy Isom, Mercy & Emerald Carter and Davis Brannen and a sister-in-law: Rinia Lee Porter of Pendleton SC also survives.

Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands: Joel Mackey, Archie Burdette and Dennis Gunter; one son: Kelly Burdette; four sisters: Myrtice Donavan, Addie Spearman, Mary Jane Crowe and Ollie Belle Sullivan and four brothers: Edward Porter, William "Bill" Porter, Horace Porter and Clarence Porter.

The family will receive friends Monday, August 25, 2025 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell.  Other times the family will be at their respective homes.

Funeral services for Mrs. Velma Gunter will be Monday, August 25, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Terry Meeks officiating.  Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1543 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell GA 30643.
