Mrs. Velma Foster Harris, age 89, of 2580 Ridge Road, Hartwell, widow of L. Gartrell Harris, died Friday, June 13, 2008 at Hart Care Center.

Born August 20, 1918, in Towns County, she was the daughter of the late Sanford and Mamie Helen Rhinehart Foster. She retired as a seamstress for the Hartwell Company after 47 years of service. She was a member of Hartwell First Baptist Church and a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law: Blane & Linda Harris of Hartwell; sister: Ruth F. Chitwood of Hartwell; grandchildren: Lisa Jones, Kevin Harris, & Kara Harris; and great-grandchildren: Kalynn Jones, Lindsay Jones, Maverick Jones, Tyler Harris, & Chelsea Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son: James Douglas Harris; brothers: Ray Foster and Sanford Foster; and sisters: Beatrice Cole and Amy Herring.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2008 at Hartwell First Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Williams, Rev. Doug Brown, and Rev. Jerry Chitwood officiating. The body will lie in state beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The family will be at the home of Blane & Linda Harris and will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to Hartwell First Baptist Church.
