Mrs. Vera Vickery Kay, age 97, of 315 Hartwell Road and the wife of the late James Horace Kay, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at Clary Care Center.
Born in Hart County, GA, Vera was the daughter of the late Yank W. Vickery and Nan Marett Vickery of the Rock Springs Community. She was a member of the Lavonia First Baptist Church for more than sixty years and a member of the Faith Sunday School Class. Also she was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Neighbor Club, and Red Hat Society. She was a past member of the Eastern Star and the Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Kay was employed by K & S Machined Products as a bookkeeper, co-owner of Kay's Kasual Sportswear in Lavonia, and worked as a bookkeeper for many years at Walter's Poultry.
Surviving are sons, Jimmy N. Kay and his wife Jan of Martin, and Terry C. Kay and his wife Agnes of Lavonia; four grandchildren, Brian Kay of Martin, Holly Kay Finn of Greenville, Nancy Kay Tyson and her husband Brian of Lavonia, Lori Kay Morris and her husband Ricky of Hartwell, and great grandchildren, Olivia and Grayson Morris of Hartwell and Brandt and Charlie Tyson of Lavonia. She is also survived by a sister, Imogene V. Spies of Winder, GA.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2011 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Finger, Rev. Richard Bielski, and Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at their respective homes. Memorials may be made to the Lavonia First Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
