Mr. George Verdell Sanders, 85, of Baker Street, Hartwell, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital, Athens, GA.

Born on March 13, 1931 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late George C. Sanders and Ruby Adams Sanders.Mr. Sanders was a mechanic and owner/operator of Sanders Hydraulics. He was a member of the Flat Shoals Baptist Church and attended Mt. Olivet Church of God.

Survivors include his wife: Shirley Jo Black Sanders; three sons: Dennis Sanders (Teresa) of Hartwell, Jeff A. Sanders (Nancy) of Elberton, and Gregory Lee Sanders (Wanda) of Elberton; one daughter: Donna Sanders of Hartwell; one brother: Wayne "Bird dog" Sanders of Hartwell; two sisters: Shirley Moon of Hartwell, Geneva Suddeth (Kenneth) of Smyrna, GA; five grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Hewell "Rabbit" Sanders; two sisters: Edna Peyton and Sula Wood.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 10, 2017, at 4:00 pm in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Mr. Fred Greenway and Mr. Greg Sanders officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening.The family is at the home.Flowers are optional, memorials may be made to the Mt. Olivet Church of God, 2088 Beacon Light Road, Hartwell, GA 30643.
