Virginia (Coleman) Dixon, 81, of Lavonia, died Friday, January 29, 2016 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, GA.
Born June 23, 1934, in Cross Hill, SC, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Eleanor (McSwain) Coleman. Prior to retirement, she was a newspaper columnist for the Franklin County Citizen and the Anderson Independent Mail North Georgia Bureau. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lavonia, where she was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. Mrs. Dixon was a member in good standing with the Lavonia Women's Club.
She is survived by her husband: Thomas Dixon; daughter: Rebecca Dixon; son: Timothy Dixon (Irmgard); sister: Eleanor Glaze; sister: Eileene Coleman (Sherry); brother: David Coleman (Pat); grandchildren: Theresa Dixon and Daniel Dixon (Kirsty); and great-grandson: Nathan Dixon. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother: James H. "Little Jimmy" Coleman, Jr.; sister: Carolyn Coleman; and brother-in-law: Wes Glaze.
The memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Lavonia with Dr. Larry Finger, Rev. Mike Smith, and Mr. Sam Harbin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service. At other hours the family will be at the home.
