Mrs. Virginia Claudine (Housmer) Sandow, age 84, of Lavonia, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at her home following an extended illness.
Born August 27, 1934 in Atlanta, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Flossie (Carroll) Housmer. Before retirement she worked as a cashier with Walmart. Mrs. Sandow was a member of East Lavonia Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband: James Sandow.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Peggy and John McAvoy; grandchildren: Eric Sexton, Samantha Certain and her husband Jamie, Kanthy Sexton; great grandchildren: Dawson Sexton, Cassidy Sexton, Alexander Certain, Virginia Anna-Bell Certain; siblings: William Housmer, Ella Mae Hopper; brother-in-law: Jimmy Sandow and his wife Margarette; nephew: David Sandow and his wife Michelle; and cousin: Darse Carroll.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 12, 2019 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Umbehant and Rev. Tommy Childress officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home.
