Mr. Viviano Monarrez, 70, of Nicholson, GA, formerly of Cicero, IL, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital, Athens, Georgia.

Born on December 2, 1952 in Durango, Mexico, he was the son of the late Justo Monarrez Quiñones and Antonia Astorga Diaz. Mr. Monarrez was a retired machine operator for PolyOne and attended the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Viviano was a great husband who loved horses, loved his children and grandchildren, shooting, cookouts, and visiting Mexico.

He is survived by his wife: Genoveba Guillen Monarrez of Nicholson, GA; two sons: Bibiano Monarrez (Amanda) and Rolando Monarrez (Maria), all of Cicero, IL; two daughters: Erci Ocon (Miguel) of Nicholson, GA, and Yajaira Monarrez (Ramiro) of Elgin, IL; seven brothers: Lorenzo and Juan Astorga, and Vicente, Ricardo, Sergio, Jesus and Justo Monarrez; five sisters: Margarita, Aurelia, Julia, Maria, and Veronica Monarrez; and 22 grandchildren: Miguel Jr, Jacqueline, Eric, Julian, Daniel, Dariel, Vivianna, Julianna, Bibiano Jr, Dahlia, Isabella, Danny, Kiara, Delia, Kalie, Aliah, Rolando Jr, Aleandro, Camila, Amariz, Ramiro Jr, and Elizbeth. Mr. Monarrez is preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers: Julio, Pascual, Laurencio, and Gonifacio Astorga.

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell.  Other times the family will be at their respective homes.

A Funeral Mass for Mr. Viviano Monarrez will be held Friday, March 31, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Rafael Castaño officiating.  Burial will be in the Memorial Garden of Prayer, 3686 Elberton Hwy, Hartwell GA 30643.
