Mr. Walter V. Collins Jr., CW4 US Army Retired, 78, of 269 Golf Course Rd, Hartwell, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at his home.

Born on February 23, 1931 in BrookhavenDeKalb Co. GA, he was the son of Walter V. Collins Sr. and Betty Lee Sanders Collins.He was retired from the US Army after 26 years of service.He was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War as well as served tours of duty in Korea, Germany, Thailand and the US during peacetime.He was a member of the Hartwell American Legion Post # 109, long time member of the Hartwell Golf Club and a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Charity Ann Fernald Collins of the home; two daughters, Cindy Moon and her husband Johnny of Statham and Barbara Gray and her husband Junior of Hartwell; three sons, Brad Collins and his wife Lucille of Ellijay, David Collins of Gainesville and Charles Meason and his wife Sharon of Buford; eleven grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren also survive.He was preceded in death by a son, Walter "Skipper" Meason; three brothers, A.W. Collins Sr., Richard Collins and Bobbie Lee Collins and a sister, Betty Louise Nutt.
